The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded grants to produce at least 741 affordable homes for low-income working families and individuals. The grants are funded through HUD’s Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) and are intended to significantly lower the cost of homeownership. The SHOP program provides federal grants on a competitive basis to national and regional non-profit organizations. Grants must be used to purchase land and make necessary infrastructure improvements, not to exceed an average of $15,000 per dwelling unit. Click here for more information.
